Benefits
The Concept2 machines are extremely versatile. Whilst originally designed for use by elite rowing athletes, they are a very useful exercise tool for novices, older people, people returning to exercise following injury or operations, people exercising for general well being or weight management and as a cross training resource for other sports. The machines are extremely robust and build to last. The feedback received from elite rowers also suggests that the unique air resistance flywheel technology makes the machines nearly ninety per cent equivalent to the feel of a boat on the water. From my time rowing on water, I would agree with this. This begs the question about whether treadmills or stationary bikes have a similar comparative feel to their outdoor counterparts.
Proper technique is crucial, both for the competitive or training athlete, or the person using it as a means of increasing their activity and exercise levels. The proper technique is relatively easy to demonstrate, but there is no substitute for at least some one to one input. There also has to be some recognition of the fact that getting on machines in gyms can be intimidating or make people feel self-conscious. One to one input may ease any feelings of self-consciousness.
